Jiuli Lake (九鲤湖) — "Nine Carp Lake" — sits in Xianyou County, 50 km northwest of Putian city in a forested mountain valley. It's a chain of lakes, pools and waterfalls linked by a short stone-step trail, historically one of the Three Uniquenesses of Fujian together with Wuyi Mountain and Yuhua Cave. The falls here — in particular the Jiu Liao Flying Waterfall — are the feature the old gazetteers call out by name.
Come in the wet season (late April to October) for full waterfall flow. The trail is modest (1–1.5 hours) but well-shaded, crossing wooden bridges between pools; the Dream Cave (何仙洞 / 九鲤洞), cut into the cliff beside the falls, is a Tang-era cultivators' retreat associated with "dream divination" traditions.
Practical: admission 65 CNY. DiDi from Putian Railway Station about 1 hour, each way; no practical public-transport option. Best as a full half-day side trip for visitors who want nature and are already doing the Mazu temple.
