Itinerary
Two days is enough for Putian if you come by high-speed rail from Fuzhou (30 min) or Quanzhou (30 min). The shape is simple: one full day on Meizhou Island, one half-day on the mainland temples, and a half-day for travel in/out or a Jiuli Lake side trip.
Day 0 — Arrival evening
- HSR into Putian Railway Station.
- Check in — the cleanest base is around Putian old town or Chengxiang District. Dinner: Putian braised noodles at any well-reviewed local shop. Under 50 CNY.
Day 1 — Meizhou Island
- Full day — see the Meizhou Island Pilgrimage Day for the hour-by-hour plan.
- Recommendation: stay the night on the island if possible — the Ancestral Temple at dawn is worth a separate trip on its own.
Day 2 — Mainland temples
- Morning: Guanghua Temple — 1,400 years, four courtyards, working seminary. 90 minutes. Vegetarian canteen for lunch (30 CNY).
- Afternoon option A: South Shaolin Temple — 35-min DiDi from the city, plus a training demo.
- Afternoon option B: Jiuli Lake — waterfalls and stone-step trails in Xianyou County, 1h DiDi each way.
- HSR out to Quanzhou or Fuzhou by 18:00.
Timing note: around Mazu Birthday (9 May 2026) or Mazu Ascension (approx. 19 October 2026), add at least one extra day for ceremonies and accept the crowd; or shift your dates by a week for the quiet version.
